Our Congregation

OUR CONGREGATION

 WELCOME TO OUR SYNAGOGUE

Located just 10 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, we are a tight-knit traditional community with a unique touch. Our minyan uses an orthodox prayer book and services are conducted primarily in Hebrew. What distinguishes us is our inclusive approach - women actively engage in our services, and we do not have a partition separating genders. Proudly upholding our traditional values, we cater to those in search of a vibrant and hospitable community. Come join us and become a part of our beloved congregation!

My family had belonged to the Carnegie Shul since I was a small child. My grandmother, uncle, parents, and cousins attended services for over 60 years. Though I now live in Florida, I have never found another congregation that exhibits the heart and soul of the Jewish heritage that I find in the Ahavath Achim Congregation. I don't need or want services that have pyrotechnics, bands, choirs, or elaborate aesthetics. I do need a shul whose members are a family. Who daven as they did when my grandparents attended and whose chants and songs sweetly return me to relished memories. Judaism is steeped in tradition and no other shul I have found embraces the Jewish traditions in such a unifying and fully Yiddish way. Though I attend virtually due to distance, I cannot think of not still being a part of the Ahavath Achim family.

I started coming, shabbos, when I was saying Kaddish as my Army meeting, one weekend a month, was a short distance away in Oakdale. Everyone was so nice so I joined and participate when I can.

The Congregation is composed of sincere no frills members who are friendly and welcoming to all.
The forum is a Time Machine which takes me back younger days when you prayed without nonsensical gimmicks.
There is a fantastic history of the congregation and I enjoy discussing it with life long members at lunch after services.

When my parents passed away in 1998, I spent many years searching for a shul to say Kaddish and attend High Holiday Services. I was looking for the warmth of the conservative Shul that I was raised in and found it in the Carnegie Shul. I have since started going regularly to Shabbat Services and have served on the Board. I found a home in the Carnegie Shul and knew it would make my Parents very happy.
